Dear Parents,
We hope you have an enjoyable summer! It is our pleasure to share your child’s kindergarten experience together. Melinda Gallagher and Jen Ellis will be job-share and will provide your child with a year full of exciting kindergarten adventures!
This year will be Jen’s thirty-second year teaching in the York Schools. This will be her eleventh year teaching in kindergarten. Prior to teaching kindergarten Jen taught transition, first grade and second grade. She was educated at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and she has continued her professional development, particularly in the area of literacy. This year Jen will teach Reading Recovery in the morning. She will teach the remainder of the day in kindergarten.
Melinda Gallagher has been teaching in York since 1997 as a Reading Recovery teacher and Title One literacy specialist. In addition she taught kindergarten in York, first grade in Alfred, ME, and second grade in Kennebunk. She was educated at the University of Southern Maine and she has continued her professional development in literacy through the University of Maine-Orono. In total, Melinda has thirty years of teaching experience. Melinda will be splitting her day between our kindergarten classroom and Reading Recovery.
We work together to make kindergarten an enriching and positive experience for every child. We will plan, monitor student progress and achievements, report and assess, be involved in parent communications, share curriculum and participate together in every aspect of daily learning.
We are thrilled to be able to offer your child a wealth of years of expertise in all content areas, however, we feel especially excited to be able to provide proficient instruction in the area of literacy!
Enjoy the summer! Be on the lookout for an informative email from us sometime in August!
